About myself... `Wing Kei Lok? What the heck does that mean?` You may ask. Well, Wing Kei means `always (start) from beginning` in Chinese (direct Cantonese translation from dð ... ^_^). I am currently enrolled in University of California at Irvine. 1996-97 will be my fourth year in the Civil Engineering program; thinking about emphasis on transportation and structural aspects. Constantly struggling bad to stay alive, to be human (like having 8 hours of sleep, regular friends, time to email and websurf, a girlfriend , etc.), and to balance my school life as well as my private life. I have never had a girlfriend... My parents and I moved to the United States more than 7 years ago from Hong Kong . We settled in the San Francisco Bay Area after a brief stay in Los Angeles area (La-La Land), and chose Hercules ('The Dynamic City') as my new hometown. My family and I were naturalized in August `96. UCI is the only school in the UC system that would take me after my high school graduation from Pinole Valley High School. Crap so now I am 400+ miles from my parents and my brother, who is attending UC Berkeley as an undeclared undergrad (MCB Molcular Cell Bio, or CS Computer Science?). Heck, he is doing just great, holding a part time job over at Staples and a demanding school life. (By the way, he is SWing, which means Small Wing, AKA 'Ving'. So I am BWing, Big Wing, AKA 'Ricky' and 'Gong'. We have to do that because we have FOUR 'Wing`s' under my family name, Chinese-style....) My interests and hobbies mainly include soccer, baseball (GO DODGERS!!), plastic finescale modeling (military and anime mecha), computing (also gaming, of course), `Netsurfing`, military intelligence gathering (just another military freak... Tom Clancy RULES!!), Japanese animation and comics (anime and manga, respectively), watching Star Trek (TNG, DS9, and Voyager), news and politics, Hong Kong / Chinese / Japanese entertainment, American movies, certain types of music like classical (not to the point that I remember all the composers), soundtracks (anime and movies alike), a little alternative (can The Cranberries be classified as it?). I am not really fond of country, R&B, soul, and hard-core rap. And of course, most of the usual things any regular (law-abiding) American would do. (That just covers almost everything else, huh? ;p ) Well, here I am, over at Irvine Meadows West (IMW) trailer park (so SICK of Middle Earth). It`s a really nice place. Cats, dogs, birds, etc. The tranquility. Friendly neigbbors, and so is my roommate :) . No more IntIrVine Ethernet connection :( . Gotta sharpen my cooking skills! (like I have any :p ) Most of my best friends are still back in Harrowdale of Middle Earth. though. Regardless, I still have a bunch of good friends from UCI, like Brandon, Nhan, Edward (UCI grad fellowship; Electrical Engineering!!), Eric, Chan, Danny, Deronie, Pei-te, Neela, Lynette, and of course, more buddies back in the Bay Area, such as Patrick, Francis (Stanford Grad School!!), Almon AKA Neon-Leon, Jimmy, Michael, Ken, Judy, Ranee, Stephanie, My, etc. (For folks not mentioned above, `gomen nasi(sorry)!`) FYI (for you information), I am still working as a student assistant over at the UCI Science Library Access Department (I need an internship somewhere!). What I really am is an Info desk / study center attendant. I am fortunate enough to have great co-workers and bosses. The only thing I hate are patrons who know our food and drinks policy and still try to bring them in the library. (Stephen and Leal: I should be the one on the `A better tomorrow II` picture!). I may have a chance to transfer to Library Information Systems by the Fall. I'll surely miss my friends and fellow workmates at Info Desk. Spring`97? I did well in CE 170B and Lab (Hydraulic systems). LOTS of "thank you" to the instructor!!, On the other hand, I did below expectation in CE 131 and Lab (Soil mechanics). Aced in the research paper for the UCI's entry of concrete canoe competition in the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Southwest Regional Conference, (THANK YOU to Dr. Maria Feng and `domo arigato (THANK YOU in Japanese)` to Kathy! :> ). Passed the tutoring position for ICS 1C (Networked Information Discovery and Retrieval). (Pass/Not Pass option only). It was a pretty good quarter overall. Summer `97? I am taking E 190W, the upper division writing class for engineers along with 14 others. It is fun having Nhan as my classmate. No money to go back to Hong Kong to see the Handover, so I saw it partially on TV. I wonder what I would be like if I was in Hong Kong these seven plus years... Went to AnimeExpo `97 for one day, July Fourth. It took place in LA airport Hilton hotel - what a mess. I like it better back in Anaheim (last year). Well, I got my belated birthday present though - Chisa Yokoyama! Eric and I managed to get into the Chisa Yokoyama Q/A panal... WOW! Chisa-chan, the voice actress for Sasami and Tsunami in Tenchi Muyo series; and Pretty Samy in Magical Girl Pretty Samy, dressed up as the latter. She later performed "Talent for Love" (OVA closing theme song) in English! It was pretty good. Because of a screw-up in the raffle system, I even managed to get Chisa to sign my Pretty Samy poster! I was really excited that I could barely manage to mutter "thank you" Of course, this page is constantly, spontaneously (even at an extremely and painfully slow rate) under construction; that is if I have time from left over from my classes. More later!!! 8) | ||
